On Wednesday 24th May, Year 6 and Year 5 pupils took part in a High 5 Netball tournament at the University of Kent at Canterbury. The event was well patronised with eighteen teams, representing fifteen primary schools.
Despite being in a challenging group, Joy Lane B team had a successful tournament. They won two of their four games, narrowly missing out on a place in the knock-out stage.
Joy Lane A team stormed through their group stage without conceding a game. Confident performances and a great display of netball skill and teamwork took them through the quarter- and semi-finals to face Hampton school in the Final. The Final proved to be a very fast and tight-fought match as well as being extremely tense for the spectators! Despite leading in the first half, the score was 2-3 to Hampton at the final whistle.
Well done to all the Joy Lane children who participated and congratulations on finishing Runners Up. A particular thank you to Jacob Webb who stood in at the final moment.

Brilliant Britain Gallery
As Term 3 drew to a close Year 2 decided to showcase their fabulous learning by opening their very own gallery. The gallery featured portraits of Queen Elizabeth herself, sculpted clay corgis, reports about the Queen and writing based around the story ‘The Queen’s Knickers’ by Nicholas Allen. The hall was dressed for the occasion with British bunting and an abundance of the children’s marvellous creations. Children were ready to act as tour guides for their Parents and Carers and Ms. Hines was escorted around the hall by children eager to show case the work they were so clearly proud of! Well done Year 2!
The last week of Term 3 saw Joy Lane transform its school halls into market places full of passion, enthusiasm and creativity. The children worked hard throughout the week researching, advertising and developing their own business ideas. They managed to turn their small start-up loan into heaps of profit to spend on enriching resources for their class (with the help of a little spending money for the market from Parents and Carers!). The week was rounded off by a celebratory assembly in which it was revealed that the children’s hard work had culminated into a phenomenal profit of £1125.69. Mr Ashley-Jones praised the children on their dedication and team work.
Whitstable and Herne Bay Lions
Mrs Ward President of the Whitstable and Herne Bay Lions presented JLPS with HiiVis jackets for 120 children.
On Tuesday the 21st of February, 6 children took part in a half-time shoot out against another school at the home ground of Gillingham FC. Either side of half-time, the six lucky children got to watch Gillingham against AFC Wimbledon which was a great opportunity. During the half-time break, the children walked onto the pitch and took 6 penalties at the Rainham End which they all loved and I'm sure they will never forget.

Year 5 English Heritage
On Monday 25th April 2016, Year 5 were fortunate enough to take part in an educational workshop at Dover Castle that was filmed for an English Heritage promotional video.
As well as learning more about castles and history, the children gained a behind-the-scenes look at how programmes are filmed. A professional cameraman and director led them through each scene, and they soon became experts at not looking at the camera and delivering clear lines.
Another great achievement for Joy Lane children and staff!

KM Perfect Packed competition 2016
After another successful round of entries from Year 5, Naomi Rafferty was selected as a finalist at the KM Perfect Packed Lunch competition. Naomi was invited to the Turner Contemporary for a gathering of the 16 finalists selected from schools across Kent. Her design of a perfect packed lunch for the queen, including treats for the corgis and caviar for the queen was selected due to its' topical theme. The judges were also very impressed by the poem that Naomi chose to write to accompany her packed lunch design.
Congratulations to Naomi for her amazing entry and becoming the second child (Dominic Bull won last year) at Joy Lane to be awarded a finalist position in the competition! Can we make the finals for a third year in a row? Watch this space!
