Voices For Choices

Voices for Choices (VfC) is a meta-cognitive approach to learning we have adopted from Nursery to Year 2, and adapted for Key Stage 2. It focuses on the Characteristics of Effective Learning (from the EYFS curriculum) with the aim of developing children’s ability to learn across the curriculum. We present these characteristics through characters, in order to support the children’s understanding of the different ways of learning and what they mean in their day-to-day activities.

This approach promotes meta-cognitive skills in children alongside the development of resilience, self-regulation and independence. During Voices for Choices sessions, children can set their goals and check their understanding whilst developing knowledge and skills that will be meaningful to them throughout, not only their time at school, but as they grow into adults. Fundamentally, it supports a holistic approach to learning where we focus on developing children as people, in addition to their academic growth.
